Introduction of Transport In Plants

In a flowering plant, the substances that would need to transport are mineral nutrients, water organic nutrients and plant growth, regulators.

Based on distance travelled by substances, transport is of two types that are described below:

Short Distance Transport:

  • Over small distances, substances move by diffusion and by cycloplasmic streaming.
  • For short-distance transport, xylem and phloem are not required.

  • In rooted plants, transport of Water and Minerals in the xylem is essentially unidirectional.
  • Over long distances substance move by bulk flow or mass flow that is the basic concept.

Means of Transport In Plants

In simple diffusion movements of particles and molecules of solids, liquids and gases from the region of higher concentration to regions of lower concentration till equilibrium established.
